Horticulture Industry Reef Rescue Projects
Horticulturalists have responded well to the incentives on offer through Reef Rescue, implementing a number of strategies to more effectively manage their land.
Funding has been used to implement improved systems and practices such as new irrigation and fertigation systems, implementing cover crop during the wet seasons and the control of pests. Improvements in the application methods of chemicals and nutrients have reduced the quantities used by farmers; resulting in reduced run-off to waterways, providing economic and environmental sustainability.
Planned improvements to farms which might have taken 10 years, thanks to the incentives, have now been achieved in just two to three years.
